Printmaking- Screen and Lino

In the New Year I started going to a weekly Art group for mums and I am very grateful to Amanda, https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/AmandaColouringIn for telling me about it. Its 2 hours (minus the time it takes to calm/ feed children in the creche) and its fantastic.  I haven't done any printmaking since I was at Uni, over 5 years ago (scary). So it was great to be able to do some again. I've done some very simple prints which seems sensible; given my limited time its a bit stressful to plan anything too elaborate. However, I'm considering getting some equipment at home as its very low tech and not too expensive.

Anyway its been lovely to have a little time to talk to other creative people and chat about ideas, if only I had to time to work on all the ideas I have!

Ideas from the journal

Daddy, Ez and Kel the dog

Daddy, Laurel and Coco the dog

tired toys

These  are just a few sketches I've done recently. I like the fact that the ones with Daddy Ashley and the children both have a dog in the background. These two were both done at Mum and Dads but this always seems to be the case at our house too, Todd the dog is usually in the background somewhere. The sketches of objects are basically the result of not having any ideas and therefore just drawing whatever happens to be around but I would like to develop this into 'proper' pieces. For example, at the end of the day in our house the living room is always full of toys thrown on the floor and discarded. I think the busy 'arrangement' of colours and textures could look really good, maybe in pastels.

Portraits

Self
Like a lot of other people in the New Year, I am trying to stay focussed. I want to concentrate on a couple of different things and not get too distracted. One thing I really enjoy is portraiture, particularly with ink. Im really pleased with the one of Laurel, even though one of her eyes turned out darker than the other, which is not how they really are. The one of Ezra was only a quick thing, its a bit more stylised than my work normally is but has a certain Ezra quality to it. As for the self portrait, I am relatively pleased with it, considering its been so long since I've done one. I'd like to do them more regularly, I find it quite a nice, self reflective activity and not just in a vain way.

The curls are gone

Here are a selection of drawings from my journal, of and related to Ezra.. In one he still looks like a baby with curly hair, in another he is all grown up with a little boy haircut ( I cried when Ashley cut it...my baby is a big boy now!).

Little Laurel

It's been so many months since I posted anything and there's lots of things I could post... I'm going to start with my wonderful daughter Laurel,  the reason my blog has been inactive for so long. Its just the best thing, seeing her and Ezra growing each day and learning new things.

Ezra's new room

Ezra still doesn't sleep in his own room for more than two or three hours but surely he will one day! And in the mean time its a nice room to play in. So we thought we would get started on some decorating... now that I've started its hard to know where to stop, theres a lot of potential wall to use. Unfortunately can't get up really high to do a nice sky full of birds, don't really trust my wobbly pregnant self on a ladder.
