Catching Up
This blog entry is a bit of a mishmash of assorted recent(ish) things I should have posted a while ago.
Below are two of my images from the Animals exhibition at Grounded last month- a really nice space I was pleased to have my work hung in.
Girl's Best Friend
Untitled
A rough charcoal drawing of Todd doing one of his favourite things-napping.
A pretty brown seagull in Castle Park, it just looked so lonely.
Another Illustration for Great Expectations
"I used to stand about the churchyard on Sunday evenings when night was falling, comparing my own perspective with the windy marsh view, and making out some likeness between them by thinking how flat and low both were"

An Evening Well Spent
Having not attended any life drawing for about a year,I decided to go to the Life Drawing class at Tobacco Factory and was very glad I did. This weeks session was a lot of fast drawings which suits me perfectly. Found it very relaxing to draw very freely, almost without thinking about it. Will definitely be going again.
ANIMALS
On Saturday morning, I hung my work at Grounded Cafe in Bedminster as part of a month long exhibition with Chandra Almeida, Dave Bain and Alex Bertram-Powell.
The evening event will be next Monday 10th October with live music and nibbles.
Pictured here is Lovely the cat (Carmen Almeida responsible for ridiculous name) napping on a suitcase next to my framed pieces.

What are you Waiting for?
After waitressing full time for quite some time, the repetition is starting to get to me.
Constantly find myself rummaging in apron pockets for something or other, then forgetting what I was looking for in the first place; when sketching out this image it seemed to me that it acts as a kind of metaphor for the way I sometimes feel- looking for something (more rewarding, more inspiring) but not knowing quite what.

Miss Havisham
"The bride within the bridal dress had withered like the dress, and like the flowers, had no brightness left but the brightness of her sunken eyes"
Found out that a new film adaptation is coming out next year, with Helena Bonham Carter as Miss H, so that'll be worth a watch.

Katherine
This is a sketch of the lovely Katherine Eves, when I was in London recently. I want to work on this image with some bolder colour and pattern, and in general I'd like to do more portraits...
And a little bit more of Peru...
A mixed media (acrylic, pencil, found papers) piece on wood. Detail below.
Some crazy looking birds I saw in the Jungle, always hanging out in gangs.

Joining the Dots Exhibition at ShOp
Another month has gone (quickly) and now I am exhibiting some work based on my Peru travels (which now seem a long time ago, two and a bit months later). The exhibition at Shop on Christmas Steps, is on until this Saturday August 27th and also features work by the another Almeida (my sister Chandra) and the lovely Bett Norris.
Here are some pics taken on the Private View night. Also take a look at Shop's blog www.talesfromshop.blogspot.com

Peru Sketchbook
So I have just returned to Bristol from a six week break to Peru (and a little bit of Bolivia) I saw so many new places and people, its hard to take it all in...
Here are some pages from the sketchbook I carried around with me. I also carried a note book and wrote lots of words in it- I'm hoping from these collected words and pictures I can develop some more finalised and informative pieces.

New Year, Paintings on Wood, and Quink.
So my new years resolution to keep my blog updated has not gone exactly to plan (can't believe we're already in February)..but anyway I shall do much better from now on...
Above is a mixed media painting I did on wood last year (the top image is a section of it)... I did several of these for the Treasure exhibition. I enjoyed this way of working, mixing different textures and words and images. And wood is a really nice surface to work on
Below are some recent ink paintings, using Parker Quink.. I just think it has a really nice blue/ brown/black variations within it. And it reflects my January wintery mood pretty well.
