Miss Havisham

"The bride within the bridal dress had withered like the dress, and like the flowers, had no brightness left but the brightness of her sunken eyes"

I have just finished reading Great Expectations by Mr Dickens and absolutely loved it. Never really read Dickens before, so hesitantly started the book, thinking it might be a bit heavy going.. but actually couldnt't put it down. The characters are so vivid, particularly the bizarre Miss Havisham, an old woman who was left at the altar on her wedding day, and thereafter never wore anything but her bridal dress, stopped all the clocks in her house and blocked all sunlight from entering her rooms.

Found out that a new film adaptation is coming out next year, with Helena Bonham Carter as Miss H, so that'll be worth a watch.
