The curls are gone

Here are a selection of drawings from my journal, of and related to Ezra.. In one he still looks like a baby with curly hair, in another he is all grown up with a little boy haircut ( I cried when Ashley cut it...my baby is a big boy now!).

Little Laurel

It's been so many months since I posted anything and there's lots of things I could post... I'm going to start with my wonderful daughter Laurel,  the reason my blog has been inactive for so long. Its just the best thing, seeing her and Ezra growing each day and learning new things.

Ezra's new room

Ezra still doesn't sleep in his own room for more than two or three hours but surely he will one day! And in the mean time its a nice room to play in. So we thought we would get started on some decorating... now that I've started its hard to know where to stop, theres a lot of potential wall to use. Unfortunately can't get up really high to do a nice sky full of birds, don't really trust my wobbly pregnant self on a ladder.

Easter Projects

Here's what I've been doing over the past couple of weeks. Almost finished Ezra's portrait, just need to do some finishing touches. I'm pleased with it. Found it enjoyably challenging because I was working from a photo thats several months old so Ezra looks a bit different and more grown up now. So I guess I was working partly from the photo and partly from the present 19 month old Ez.

And here's something else on wood. We've been making some plans for home improvements and decorating and this new house number is  a small start.

Portrait

This is what I am currently working on, a portrait of baby Ezra... who is not really a baby any more. This is definitely a portrait of a little boy.

I had the idea to do a leafy foresty background and then really wanted to paint it on an interesting piece of wood. So I went along to the Bristol Wood Recycling Project and found this which sort of has its own ready made frame. I think its suits the portrait really well...

Below you can see the progression so far, although I didn't think to take a photo before any paint had been applied.

Finished set of images

Finally I have finished the Sleeping Like a Baby illustrations. The idea is that its a kind of souvenir of Ezra's first year. Now that he's a toddler getting on for 18 months, I can see how fleeting babyhood really is and I'm really glad I did this to remember the early days.

There are so many new experiences you encounter when building a relationship with your child and every parent's experience is different, but I hope others can relate to this in some way.
